Three Mile Cache by Jen Silver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Carolyn returns to Sydney expecting to find life as she left it, but her lover Alex hasn’t fared well in the time Carolyn has been away. When she discovers Alex is recuperating after being involved in a hostage incident, Carolyn can’t help but go chasing after her. When she arrives in Three Mile Cache, what awaits is nothing like Carolyn expected and she wonders if things can ever be how they were before.
An exciting story, which although only novella length packs in lots of action, drama, heartache and hope. I loved the fast pace and the dips into Alex and Carolyn’s background but not enough to detract from the story. Carolyn was quite naïve in what she expected to find upon her return but I have to say I admired her determination to try and put things right, get back the life she left behind.
Alex was a brilliant character, edgy and daring, even with her injuries. I admired her for not wanting to give up and even though she was supposed to be resting and healing, she was busy getting herself involved in things and pushing herself. Alex isn’t without her vulnerabilities but she did a great job of hiding them from her friends and Carolyn.
A simple, short adventure story to fill a coffee break or if you just want a light read. I really enjoyed the story and wonder if there will be more from Alex and Carolyn in future, as I know there is more of story there.
