Very Emotional!
Aeron, finds herself haunted by the past and fighting to survive given her failing health, after being accused of the murders committed by someone she thought was a friend. Locked away in a mental health facility again, she desperately needs to get information to Renee and Frei, but with her abilities out of use and no other way to contact them she is relying on her many allies.
I adore the Above and Beyond Series and you must have read all the stories leading up to this one before getting started. I love Aeron, she is a truly unique person with a story like no one else’s and Jody delivers a story filled with heart and soul, embodying Aeron’s empathetic and kind nature every time, no matter what challenges she faces. I was an emotional wreck reading this one because knowing all I do about Aeron from the other stories in the series I was sad she was back where she was and suffering so. My heart broke for her, yet I also admired how she never gave up, and even now was looking out for others, putting them first and standing up for justice and what was right. Even if it meant risking her own life and freedom.
Jody really wrapped up some of the loose ends from the other parts of the stories, introduced new characters, and even familiar ones in new light. And while Aeron was locked up and trying to think what she could do to achieve the goal she had, the team of characters we have met throughout the series were hard at work, as always, working effortlessly to find out what had happened and get to her too. She and Renee have such a powerful and deeply emotional connection that I just hoped all would work out, and once together again nothing would be in doubt anymore.
Absolutely loved this part of the story and hope this isn’t the end of Aeron and Renee’s story as they have so much more to give. Aeron does deserve a little rest though, as I think this really was her toughest test yet!
